Suggested Supports and resources
While there are no mandated summer assignments, students are encouraged to exercise their minds this summer! Here are some suggested tasks:
ELA-Check out the NYC DOE Summer reading list and select 2 books to read for fun! Choose books that interest you and that you can read independently. You are also encouraged to keep a daily journal.
Social Studies-Stay informed about current events by logging into Newsela using your BELL Academy Gmail account and reading an article daily. Challenge yourself by taking the accompanying quiz to check your understanding. Don't forget you can adjust the Lexile level of each article as needed.
Math-The most important thing students can do to prepare for higher level math is having a solid foundation in fact fluency. Here are some great websites that make it fun:
Science-This website has a multitude of science experiments and demonstrations that you can try at home using every day materials. These would be perfect on a rainy day, and younger siblings would also enjoy helping out.
*Please remember adult supervision is ALWAYS required for hands on science.

-Please help your child maintain organization by checking their red folder every night. Any papers on the "keep at home" side can be left at home, while any papers that must be signed by you or completed for homework will be found on the "return to school" side. Please continue checking their accordion folders on a regular basis, as well, to ensure that papers are filed in the correct section for each subject. Students will be directed when they can empty their accordion folders at the end of each unit.
-Please sign up for Jupiter Ed, which is replacing Engrade for communicating your child's grades and progress. A step by step flyer went home with your child. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns about the new system.
-Please ask me how to sign up for Class Dojo, which is an online platform for communicating behavior, celebrating success and other important information, or check their homework folder for the invitation.
