2/14/2017

February 13-17, 2017 is Respect For All (RFA) Week in all NYC public schools. During this week, schools have the opportunity to highlight and build upon ongoing diversity programs and curriculum-based instruction. Schools also have the opportunity to embark upon new initiatives that promote respect for diversity and engage students in meaningful lessons and/or other activities that focus on preventing bias-based harassment, intimidation and/or bullying.
What's happening at BELL Academy for RFA Week?
Monday, February 13, 2017
“Pride”
In a joint effort to maintain a culture of respect and ensure a safe, bully-free learning environment for students in all grade levels, BELL Academy students will pledge to promote respect for all through a discussion about cultural pride.. Each student will be given a ribbon and on each ribbon, will write one way they are proud of their race, culture, or gender. Each student will tie their ribbon to the fence to show how each individual makes BELL Academy a better place. From the information collected by students in the Future Community Leaders Cluster, posters will be placed around the hallways to celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of the students and staff at BELL Academy.  The flag from each culture will be posted along with the reasons students gave as to why they are proud of their culture.
Tuesday, February 14, 2017
“Religion, Race, Respect”
Each class will be given one letter from the phrase RESPECT FOR ALL and will decorate it to represent what they think the phrase stands for.  Each letter will be posted a window on the third floor to show that BELL Academy has Respect for All.
Wednesday, February 15, 2016
“Bullying 101”
Students will present an anti-bullying video during Auditorium periods which will help students better understand the role of an ally in a bullying situation.  Students will also be exposed to the dangers of cyberbullying and the reasons to be cautious about what is posted on the internet.
Thursday, February 16, 2016
“Religion, Race, Respect”
Each Social Studies teacher will teach a lesson on Race, Religion and Respect in everyday life from the Overcoming Obstacles Respect Activity Book issued by the NYC DOE.
Friday, February 17, 2016
“No One Eats Alone”
BELL Academy will celebrate No One Eats Alone day, a nationwide event during which students are encouraged to connect and engage with their peers in order to combat social isolation.  Students from all grades will be placed in groups of four and given a seat assignment during 6th or 7th period lunch with the members of their group. Students will fill out a survey on the members of their group in order to ensure students engage in conversation with their group.

During the other lunch period, students will view a video put together by Student Government which brings to light information on bullying and acceptance.
