On Friday, September 11, PS 169 and BELL Academy students and staff joined together to pay tribute to the many brave men and women who lost their lives on September 11th 2001, and to the brave men and women who serve our city, and our country, to keep us safe every day. Our own Mr. Neggie played the bagpipes, the BELL Select Chorus led by our Musical Director Mr. Baum performed, and 8th grader Samantha read a touching poem. A PS 169 staff member sang the "Star Spangled Banner," the PS 169 chorus performed, and 2 students read an original poem. Council Member Paul Vallone, Superintendent Danielle DiMango, and District 25 UFT Representative Joe Kessler gave heartwarming speeches with a theme of unity and kindness towards one another. It was a beautiful way to commemorate this historic day.

We held our 2nd annual “Dads Take Your Child to School” event on November 14, 2014. We held this event in recognition of the outstanding roles of the male figures in our students’ lives. Our Chancellor is a huge supporter of this event and believes that we should celebrate the special relationships that students have with the male role models in their lives. A representative from her office was a guest speaker and named us, “A staple school for Family Engagement”! This special event started with a breakfast in our cafeteria, followed by a myriad of special guest speakers and touching performances by our students. It was definitely a huge success!

Tom “Running Man” McGrath, age 64, will run 157 miles this month through New York City, that’s a marathon per day for six days, to benefit Achilles Kids, a group that aims to give children with disabilities the chance to walk, run, wheel and compete in mainstream sports and exercise. Tom visited BELL Academy and inspired our students and staff to get out and run! Last year, Achilles Kids handed out 4,700 pairs of running shoes!
